Welcome to the Transforming the Internet Infrastructure – The Photonics Hyperhighway programme website

With the introduction of bandwidth hungry applications the threat of network gridlock is increasingly becoming a concern. The EPSRC funded “Transforming the Internet Infrastructure – The Photonics Hyperhighway” project will work to develop disruptive component technologies and network concepts to enhance communications infrastructure, avert bandwidth grid-lock and reduce energy consumption. The project combines the world-leading expertise of the University of Southampton’s Optoelectronics Research Centre and the High Performance Network Group of the University of Essex along with industry project partners.
